The Member of Parliament for Tamale North and member of the National Democratic Congress, Honourable Alhassan Suhuyini has dared the Electoral Commission chair, Madam Jean Adukwei Mensah to mount the witness box and clear all doubts.
The argument of whether the EC chairperson would mount the witness box is still on-going. On Tuesday, counsel for the petitioner made a strong submission on why it is necessary for the EC chair to mount the witness box, stating that the issues raised against her are ones that need clarification from her.
The 1st and 2nd respondents in the on-going case are still standing by their submission on not calling their witnesses in the petition case while the court is set to rule on whether or not the EC chair should mount the witness box on Thursday.
In an interview with Accra based Gh one on Wednesday, Hon. Suhuyini stated that Afari Gyan in 2012 mounted the witness box to bring clarification to the results he declared in the 2012 elections. He added that it was necessary for Jean Mensah to repeat the same if she indeed conducted free and fair elections. He said;
“The argument of whether the EC boss should get into the box shouldn’t have happened. When Afari-Gyan’s last election was challenged, he went into the witness box to clear any doubt people may have about the EC”.
