Ace Ghanaian actor Oscar Provencal, popularly known as Inspector Bediako has opened up on the ailing Ghanaian movie industry and its future and has said that content is going to be a major challenge for the industry.
Oscar Provencal was in an interview with Serwaa Amihere of GhOne Tv on Thursday when he made the comment.
Responding to Serwaa’s question on what he thinks is the cause of the swipe with respect to the attention given to current Ghanaian movies, the popular actor said a lot of factors such as the availability of technology can highly be blamed for the swipe.
He explained that the movie industry always faces a major swipe almost once every 10 years. Formerly, Ghanaians queued heavily to watch movies, and then it came to the takeover by kumawood and CD’s. He added that currently, the ordinary Ghanaian has a digital box with lots of tv channels and is exposed to lots of movies across the world.
The reason why the Ghanaian pays less attention to Ghanaian movies according to him is because of the exposure of other movie contents from across the world. He warned that in the near future when technology will allow even more access to tv on smartphones and internet, the Ghanaian movie makers must be careful of their content else no one will patronize their work. “Content is going to be a major challenge for us”.
He went further to confirm that the popular tv series, Inspector Bediako is coming back soon. He noted that a challenge causing the delay is that they want to avoid violence as the former had none of such content, but the current generation of movies doesn’t have such content for a crime series so they are looking at how best to rewrite the script professionally.
