Top ten football clubs in Ghana
Ghana Football over the years has developed so much with many football cubs reaching great heights both locally and outside internationally
When the first football game was played at Cape Coast in 1903, little did the students of the Government boys school at Cape Coast-who were organizing the game- know the impact the game was going to have on future football clubs and the nation in the next 100 years and over.
After a few more training sessions, the students from the government boys school named their team Cape Coast Excelsior.
In the last century, after Excelsior was formed, Ghana football has reached unprecedented heights with both club and national teams achieving several laurels.

10.Medeama Sporting Club
Based in Tarkwa, the club has grown to become one of the most supported in the country, especially in the Western part of Ghana.
As the only club from that region currently in the Ghana Premier league, Medeama continues to represent the region in the best way possible. Their laurels include two FA Cup trophies they won in 2013 and 2015.
9. King Faisal Babies
Founded by ace Ghanaian football administrator, Alhaji Abdul Karim Grunsah, the club enjoyed sustained consistency at the top level in the late nighties and early noughties, representing Ghana in the CAF continental competitions.
King Faisal boasts of producing several players for the national team. Former Black Meteors captain, Yusif Chibsah, Bayern Munich legend Sammy Ossei Kuffor, and Habib Mohammed all featured for King Faisal.
8. Liberty Professionals FC
Liberty was founded in 1996 and gained promotion to the premier league just two seasons later. They were one of the first clubs to adopt the professional management style.
They have a good academy system that has produced household talents for the Black Stars like Asamoah Gyan, Sulley Ali Muntari, and Michael Essien.
7. Berekum Chelsea
The boys from Berekum are an upcoming club who are fast becoming a side to reckon with.
Their brilliant campaign in the CAF champions league in 2012 is one to always have in mind. They have won the Ghana Premier League once.
6. Cape Coast Ebusua Dwarfs
Founded by the Brew-Butler family in 1932, Ebusua dwarfs have for long held a special position in the development of football in the country. They were amongst the founding fathers of the Ghana Premier League and have won it once in the 1965-66 season.
5. Aduana Stars
Based in the Bono region of Ghana, the professionalism of the club owned by Nana Agyeman Badu I is a sight to behold. The club is strengthening their grip on the title of the ‘new masters of the Ghana Premier league’ with two league titles in the last 10 years and some very impressive CAF confederations cup campaigns.
4. Accra Great Olympics
Probably the most entertaining club in the Ghana Premier League on and off the pitch for different reasons. The Oly Dade boys have come a long way since they were formed in the sixties.
The club enjoyed a good spell in the 1970s, winning two league titles and an FA Cup. 2 more FA Cup wins makes Olympics one of the traditional clubs in Ghana Football
3.Ashantigold FC
Ashantigold FC,formerly Obuasi Goldfields are one of the richest clubs in Ghana, bankrolled by Anglogold Ashanti. The club enjoyed huge success in the 90s, winning the Ghana Premier league three times in a row with a squad blessed with talented players like Yaw Acheampong, Augustine Arhinful and the likes
They boast of 4 PL titles and an FA Cup
2. Accra Hearts of Oak
The intercontinental club masters and the ‘never say die’ boys as they are affectionately called by their fans have seen it all in Ghana Football
They are the oldest club in Ghana, formed in 1911 and have won 20 league titles, 10 FA Cups, 3 super cups, the CAF Champions League, and the maiden CAF Confederation Cup trophy in 2005.
Their 64 Batallion team is undoubtedly the greatest squad assembled in Ghana Football, having won 6 GHPL titles in a row and the treble in 2000.

With the resume of Accra Hearts of Oak stated above, one may be left to wonder how any team beats that. Unluckily for them, Kotoko are that special.
The Porcupine Warriors have 24 GHPL titles to their name, with 8 FA Cups and a few more Ghana Super Cups to show for it
Kumasi Asante Kotoko have won the CAF Champions League 2 times and reached the final 5 more times. They were named by IFFHS as the African Football Club of the Century.
