Otumfuo

Owner and club patron of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has directed the club to desist from signing any new players into the current team.

Otumfuo

Otumfuo’s directive comes after a thorough restructuring of the club’s executives in the last couple of weeks.

The announcement was made at a meet the press programme held by the newly constituted board of the Kumasi based club.

Kotoko have come under scrutiny for their wrongdoings in the transfer market over the last two months and we’re directed to pay an amount in excess of $240,000 to Tunisian side Esperance after a transfer dispute. Kotoko have since paid off the debt.

Speaking at the meet the press programme at the Sports hotel , Mr. Kofi Badu, Chief if Staff at Manhyia said;

Otumfuo has directed that Kotoko shall not recruit any new player into the current team” ,Badu said at the board’s inauguration.
“Asante Kotoko club should not recruit any new player for at least one season,” he added.
Kotoko coach Maxwell Konadu currently has a squad of over 35 players in his books and in order to stop the wholesale buying culture at the club, the great King hasn’t out this directive.
Kotoko were in the hunt for a first league title in 5 years before the Ghana Premier league was suspended due to the COVID 19 pandemic.
