Former Black Stars and Bayern Munich defender, Sammy Kuffuor has heaped praise on his former Black Stars teammate and captain,Stephen “Tornardo” Appiah for his exemplary role as captain of the Black Stars.
Sammy Kuffuor was a member of the Ghana squad at their very first appearance at the FIFA World Cup in 2006 of which Stephen Appiah was captain.
The duo were 2 of Ghana’s most experienced and important players at the mundial. Sammy Kuffuor equivocally states how well Stephen Appiah conducted himself and led Ghana to a respectable Round of 16 finish at the tournament.
He was speaking in an interview with Joy FM’s Nathaniel Attoh on the Joy Sports Link.
“Stephen [Appiah] was the captain. When we qualified to the World Cup in 2006, he never did anything behind me. He showed me respect because I was there before him and honestly, I never thought of being a captain because it is just a band,” he said.
“You show your leadership on the field of play. Let me give you a scenario here, during the 2014 World Cup, Messi was the captain for Argentina but you could see inspiration came from Mascherano.”
“Stephen was a leader, I loved the way he conducted himself in terms of leadership..”
