Ghanaian rapper and Zylofon act signee, David Kwaku Effum known for his stage name Obibini has described rapper Medikal as the weakest rapper who’s rap style suits the youth and kids, insisting that kids get happy when they hear his rap.
Obibini was in an interview with Sammy Flex on Zylofon Fm’s Showbiz Agenda on Tuesday when he made this revelation.
His submission comes after he was asked to comment on the rapper of the year category for the 20th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards of which he is a nominee.
As monitored by ghlinks.com.gh, the rapper said Medikal is a great artiste and has an appeal for the game, but his style of rap music and the message it carries appeals to the young ones in the country and doesn’t cut for this year’s VGMA rapper of the year category.
“the weakest link in there go be Medikal for me coz like i said his stuff sits well with the kids and this is best rapper of the year we are talking about coz it’s about lyricism and the message..He is cool. He is nice. If my neighbour’s child is crying and I want him to stop, I’ll play him some Medikal. His stuff sticks well with the youth.”
Commenting on the other nominees for the rapper of the category, the My Story hit maker said he holds a personal opinion against the nomination of rapper Sarkodie for this year in the rapper of the year category. He explained that he thinks this year, Sarkodie hasn’t done enough to earn him a slot in the category and that his slot should have been taken by Strongman Burner.
Irrespective, Obibini insisted that with no disrespect, he feels Medikal makes the least among all the rappers in the category because the description of the category goes deep with the meaning of the artiste’s song and the message it carries.
In response to whether he deserves to win the rapper of the year at this year’s VGMA, the rapper said he has been underrated in Ghana and deserves the award irrespective of what people think. “I’ve been underrated and all that. Forget the nominees’ saf. OB be the truth.”
