Over the weekend, a 20-year-old college basketball player identified as Phillip Urban was shot dead while sitting in a white Mercedes at a New Jersey nature preserve.
According to a statement from the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office, Phillip Urban was shot around 7 p.m. Saturday at the Hopewell Valley Nature Preserve.
Police said they found him “slumped over” in the driver’s seat of the luxury car, which was parked on a trail.
He was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead a short time later, the statement said.
The circumstances of his death remain unclear, but authorities believe Urban had planned to meet someone at the preserve and was shot during their meeting.
Homicide detectives with the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office and Hopewell Township police are investigating.
