Normani Kordei Hamilton, better known by her stage name Normani, is an American singer, recording artist, songwriter, and performer who is best known for her involvement in the American girl group Fifth Harmony.

In 2012, the Fifth Harmony group was formed during the second season of The X Factor US, and was made up of Ally Brooke, Dinah Jane, Lauren Jauregui, Normani and previously Camila Cabello.

Cabello‘s departure led to the group going on hiatus in May 2018 in order to let the remaining four pursue solo projects.

Education

Growing up in Atlanta, Georgia, and New Orleans, Normani went to Trinity Episcopal School and competed in dance, gymnastics, and beauty pageants from an early age.

After Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans in 2005, Normani and her family moved to Houston, Texas.

The singer began her music career when she auditioned for The X Factor USA season two in 2012 with Aretha Franklin’s Chain of Fools.

Following the approval of all four of the judges, she progressed to the next round.

She was eliminated from boot camp in the second round- this ended Normani’s participation in X Factor.

She was then brought back to the show and placed in a group with four other girls, Ally Brooke, Lauren Jauregui, Dinah Jane, and Camila Cabello, who would later become Fifth Harmony.

This group ended up finishing third at the show’s season finale following its season run.

In October 2013, the group Fifth Harmony released their first EPBetter Together.

The group released a debut album in 2015, and a follow-up in 2016.

In August 2017, Fifth Harmony released their first album as a quartet after Camila Cabello announced her departure from the group in December 2016.

Normani Biography

She became the quartet’s de facto leader, in charge of solos and choreography.

In late 2017, she began working with RCA’s Keep Cool imprint’s executive Tunji Balogun and manager Brandon Silverstein, who discovered Normani’s onstage confidence in the group.

On March 19, 2018, the group revealed that they would take an indefinite break to work on their individual careers.

In February 2018, the 23-year-old singer released her first solo single with R&B singer Khalid, “Love Lies.”.

In January 2020, Normani and rapper Megan Thee Stallion released “Diamonds“, the lead single for the soundtrack of the superhero film Birds of Prey (2020).

She is set to release “Wild Side“, featuring Cardi B, on July 16, 2021.
