Gugu Mbatha Raw has had a string of high-profile roles behind her, many of which have garnered her critical and commercial acclaim.
She received a Bifa (British Independent Film Award) for her role as Dido Elizabeth Belle in Belle in 2014.
She is also known for her theatre work, playing Juliet and Octavia in Shakespeare’s Romeo And Juliet and Antony And Cleopatra respectively.

Her father, Patrick, is a black South African doctor, while her mother Anne is a nurse.
She is the only child of her parents.
Her parents separated when she was just a year old and therefore was raised by her mum in Oxfordshire in the UK.
Gugu has maintained a warm relationship with her father and still has close links with him even though he separated from her mother.
