Daniel Cameron has his name firmly incised as the first African American in Kentucky history to become its attorney general.
He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Louisville, where he played on the football team and was a McConnell Scholar.
Cameron went on to graduate from the Brandeis School of Law at U of L and was president of the Student Bar Association.
He also worked as McConnell’s legal counsel for a little more than two years, where he was responsible for ensuring the office was compliant with Senate ethics rules.
Daniel is married to Makenze and they have a child together.

Daniel Jay Cameron was born November 22, 1985 in Plano, Texas, to parents Sandra and Lavonnie Cameron.
In 2019, Daniel Cameron’s parents were present when he was sworn in as Kentucky’s first black attorney general.
The Lexington Herald-Leader reported that Cameron was administered the oath of office by U.S District Judge Gregory F. Van Tatenhove, with his mother, Sandra Cameron, holding the Bible for the swearing-in ceremony in his Capitol office and his father, Lavonnie Cameron, looking on.

Sandra Cameron is a retired professor at Elizabethtown Community & Technical College.
She has worked there for 15 years and has developed a partnership with LGE-KU that has benefited the company, the college, and especially the students.
Lavonnie Cameron
Lavonnie Cameron is Daniel Cameron’s father.
He is a businessman and owned a local coffee shop in Elizabethtown, Kentucky.
Daniel’s parents are no longer together, and Lavonnie is currently engaged to Brittany Mathis.
