A boy from Oldham who has been found in France after going missing six years ago ‘wanted to see his grandmother and have a normal future’, according to the delivery driver who found him.

Alex Batty was just 11-years-old when he disappeared with his mother Melanie and grandad David in 2017 after going on a family holiday to Spain.

Detectives believe he was abducted by his mother Melanie Batty to live an ‘alternative’ lifestyle abroad.

According to The Sun, the first words he uttered when picked up by Accidini on the side of the road in Revel, France were, “My mother kidnapped me when I was 12 years old.”

Melanie Batty, the mother of Alex Batty, went on a pre-agreed vacation to Spain with her father David and Alex in October 2017.

The three of them were supposed to return on October 8, 2017, but never showed up.

Melanie’s mother, Susan Caruana, claims that Melanie Batty opposed Alex’s going to school.

Melanie’s current whereabouts are still unknown and so far, her son has refused to say where she is.

Who is Alex Batty’s grandmother?

Alex Batty’s grandmother is Susan Caruana, who was also his legal guardian.

At the time of his disappearance, Susan thought Melanie and Alex might have adopted “an alternative lifestyle” in another country.

She revealed that her daughter and ex-husband previously lived on a commune in Morocco with Alex in 2014.

She said at the time: “They didn’t want [Alex] to go to school, they don’t believe in mainstream school.”
