Felix Ohene Gyan is a Ghanaian footballer who recently completed a move to the youth side of Italian Serie A outfit AS Roma.

The young forward joins from EurAfrica Football Club based in Accra.

Here are some things you probably weren’t aware of about Roma’s newest sensation.

Education

He attended high school at Berekum Presec in 2019 and comes from a village called “Beposo” in Wenchi.

Age

Currently, he is 18 years old

Profile

Before joining EurAfrica Football Club, Ohene Gyan was playing for Presbyterian Senior High School in Berekum in the Bono region.

He went ahead to captain the Bono Region team after leading his school to the regional tournament.

Football, however, was his calling card.

He led his school to the regional tournament and was named, captain of the regional high school select squad.

The Wenchi-born prodigy has always broken barriers.

From becoming his high school team captain and sports perfect as a second-year student when only final years are given that honour, Oliver Arthur knew he did not just have a footballer, but a well-rounded young man with the potential to reach the very top.

Afena-Gyan’s mother deserves credit for his endearing personality. It was her who first discovered her toddler had a knack for football and encouraged his talent.

She also saw the value in him having an education and kept him honest as a student-athlete.

Career

The 18-year-old participated in the Milo competition for the Brong Ahafo Region and was captain of the side.

Initially, his mother wanted to send him to Asante Kotoko but that did not happen because the club’s academy had not taken shape then.

He was taken to the EurAfrica Academy instead.

The academy which was established in 2018 has produced some talents such as Ibrahim Mustapha who moved to Serbia’s Red Star Belgrade, Abdul Rahim Alhassan who joined Portuguese side Sporting Braga and Salim Abubakar who moved to Sassuolo.

The striker says he fell in love with Roma the memorable night when they beat Barcelona 3-0 in the Champions League to qualify on the away goals rule.

He went for trails at AC Milan and scored goals in his trial games but the deal fell through as Roma swooped the Ghanaian instead.

Just a day after his unveiling on March 13, the youngster made a spectacular start to his AS Roma career by scoring and providing an assist on his debut for the under-18 side in a 5-0 thumping of Genoa.

He followed up that display for coach Aniello Parisi’s side by scoring in his next two matches and was so impressive he earned a quick promotion to Roma’s Primavera under-19 squad.

He is currently the top scorer in Italy’s Primavera 1 with six goals in five games.
