A Detroit neurosurgeon identified as Devon Hoover was found fatally shot and wrapped in a sheet in his attic after police conducted a welfare check on his $1.2m mansion.
Devon Hoover, 53, was killed in what cops believe to be a domestic situation turned violent.
His car was discovered in a separate location.
The Ascension Michigan Hospital doctor, who is thought to have lived alone, was regarded as one of the top medical professionals in the state.
No motive has yet been confirmed for the ‘wonderful’ surgeon’s murder and no arrests have been made since his body was discovered Sunday evening.
The 53-year-old was found dead in his $1.2million mansion in the historic Boston-Edison district of Detroit. Police visited the home after he reportedly failed to show up to a family party.
The lucrative area is one of the most upscale neighborhoods in the city, and according to its website numerous Michigan celebrities including heavyweight boxer Joe Louis and baseball star Willie Horton have lived there.

At this time, it is unclear if he was married or in a relationship at the time of his passing.
It is also not known if he had any children.
Devon Hoover, 53, was a board-certified neurosurgeon at Ascension Hospital in Detroit.
He had over 20 years of experience and began his career after he graduated from the Indiana University School of Medicine.
Hoover specialized in neck and back disorders, according to ABC affiliate station WXYZ.
