About Bud Harrelson
Bud Harrelson was a former Major League Baseball switch hitting shortstop, who played in over 1,500 games spanning sixteen seasons from 1965 to 1980 for the New York Mets (1965-1977), Philadelphia Phillies (1978-1979) and Texas Rangers (1980).
During his career Harrelson was a two-time All-Star and gold glove winner. Harrelson is a member of the 1969 World Series Champions New York Mets, and the 1973 National League Champion New York Mets, starting every post-season game.
After his playing career ended Harrelson remained active in professional baseball, serving as the third base coach for the New York Mets from 1985-1990, and as their manager from 1990-1991.
Afterwards, Harrelson was involved with the ownership of the Wilmington Blue Rocks baseball team, and was instrumental in bringing professional baseball to Long Island with the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League.
Harrelson served as the team’s first field manager and remains a co-owner and Senior Vice-President of Baseball Operations with the Ducks. During his tenure the Ducks have won three championships.
