Zephyrhills Man, 24, Killed in Early Morning Crash on Coats Road

Leon Stiehm

A 24-year-old man from Zephyrhills lost his life in a single-vehicle crash early Thursday morning.

Family and friends on social media have identified the victim as Leon Stiehm.

The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reported that the crash occurred at around 3:05 a.m. on Coats Road near the 3700 block.

Stiehm was driving a Chevy Tahoe southbound when the vehicle struck a large piece of tree debris in the roadway.

The impact caused the Tahoe to lose control, spin, and hit two mailboxes before overturning.

Stiehm, who was ejected from the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger, a 20-year-old man from Dade City, was also in the vehicle at the time of the crash but was not injured.

Coats Road was temporarily closed during the investigation but has since reopened.

Officials remind drivers to remain alert for unexpected obstacles, particularly at night.
