According to jpost.com, Alexander met a woman named Claire while he was studying at Southern Methodist University.

Their connection grew stronger, and eventually, they got engaged.

Unfortunately, Claire’s mother did not approve of their relationship because of Alexander’s condition.

On one occasion, when he tried to call his fiancée, her mother answered the phone and forbade him from marrying her daughter or even speaking to her again.

Since that incident with Claire, Alexander has never gotten married.

However, his relationship with a woman named Kathy Gaines is the closest thing to it, as stated by his brother Phil.

Kathy Gaines, who is legally blind due to type 1 diabetes, has become Alexander’s “arms and legs” after he completed law school.

She has taken care of him for more than 30 years.

In fact, she visited him every single day during his five-month hospital stay in 2019 and continues to be by his side wherever he goes.

“Paul has always been assertive when it comes to getting what he wants and needs around others,” his brother shared with The Guardian. “He can be quite demanding. But Kathy is even more demanding than he is. They have had their disagreements, but they always manage to work things out.”
