Uwe Herbert Hahn, a German diplomat working in Brazil was arrested for allegedly fatally beating his husband of 20 years and then trying to cover-up the crime, according to a report.
Uwe Herbert Hahn, who works as a German consul in Rio de Janeiro, is accused of killing Belgian husband Walter Henri Maximilien Biot on Saturday – just a week before his 53rd birthday, according to a report by the Straits Times.
Hahn allegedly told officials that Biot died after a combination of drinking and sleeping pills caused him to fall ill, collapse and hit his head, cops said.
But a forensic report revealed Biot – found at the couple’s Ipanema beach apartment – had been brutally beaten, officials said.
The report revealed that Biot’s body had “various bruises, including on the torso, compatible with injuries inflicted by stomping, as well as lesions compatible with an attack with a cylindrical instrument,” Officer Camila Lourenco said on social media, according to the report.
“The version of events given by the consul, that the victim suffered a fall, is incompatible with the conclusions of the forensics report,” said Lourenco, of Rio de Janeiro’s 14th Precinct.
“The cadaver is screaming out the circumstances of its death,” she said.
Hahn is accused of not only lying about how his husband died, but also of trying to cover up the scene before cops arrived, the news site reported.
Hahn won’t receive diplomatic immunity because of the severity of the allegations against him, the outlet said, citing local media.
