A mother of two and a cyber security officer was killed after she was shot in the head while on her way home from a campaign event for her cousin. Because she had been shot, Teressa Calligan then ran into the back of an East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s deputy, who had a trainee with him. Both deputies were injured.
Baton Rouge Police are now piecing together how and why Calligan was shot.
It was around 9 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 15, when officials were requested to respond to the intersection of Greenwell St. at Airline Hwy. in Baton Rouge.
So far, Baton Rouge Police say a vehicle pulled alongside Calligan’s vehicle and opened fire.
She was hit multiple times, including in the head.
As a result of her injuries, Calligan hit multiple other vehicles, including a police car.
Inside that police car were two deputies, one of them was a trainee. Both were transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Calligan died at the scene.
Teressa Calligan had just left Dearman’s Diner in Baton Rouge, where a campaign party was held for a member of her family.
She was on her way home when she ended up shot. Her family says it could have been a case of mistaken identity because they cannot figure out why she would have been targeted in the shooting.
Calligan worked as a cyber security officer for Entergy. She leaves behind two children. It’s still unclear exactly what happened leading up to the shooting.
