Sarkodie has revealed that the death of his beloved granny is the inspiration for his 4th album Mary released in September 2015.
This wonderful woman, a true believer who has always supported me. She is very strong woman with a sense of humour – so funny made me feel really loved,” he told the BBC in an interview.
The 2012 BET Best International Act (Africa) winner narrated that his grandma fell one morning and when he rushed to take her to the hospital he was “so scared I couldn’t even touch her.” His grandmother then passed on whilst he was trying to rush her to hospital.
It was Sarkodie’s grandma’s wish that he releases a high based album. With that wish, the rapper hit the studios to record what has turned out to be one of the best highlife/hiplife albums of our time. All songs on the album were recorded with live band.
Some of the musicians he worked with on the album include, Efya, Chase, Akwaboah, Obrafour, Pat Thomas and Mugeez of R2Bees.
