NSFAS Wallet, which is a service provided to students who receive their allowances directly from NSFAS, allows students to withdraw cash, and pay for goods at participating stores or to informal traders.
For the purpose of receiving NSFAS Allowances with your NSFAS wallet, the following credentials must be provided:
- A valid SIM card and your own cell phone.
- If you are a new student to NSFAS, you must sign the NSFAS Bursary Agreement.
- You will not need to withdraw cash to pay your landlord or any registered merchant.
The steps for registering for an Nsfas wallet
Register your wallet by following these steps:
- On your phone, dial *120*176# and follow the prompt to verify & authenticate your account.
- Your account password will be sent to you via SMS.
- Once your account has been verified, you can access it simply by dialing the same *120*176#.

How to check your Nsfas wallet balance
There are two methods through which you are able to view the NSFAS statement of account balance in your NSFAS wallet.
You can also check online or using your cell phone.
Via cellphone
On your cell phone,
- Dial USSD code *134*176#
- Enter your password
- Click Send
- Select option 2. Query
- Finally, view your cash balance and transactions.
Via online
To check your nsfas wallet online (nsfas eWallet),
- Navigate to celbux.appspot.com.
- Log into your account by typing in your cellphone number and password.
- Click the “Login” button.
- In your account, click “More”.
- Then, click “Transactions”.
- Now, you can view your wallet balance.
How to withdraw cash using nsfas wallet
Those who wish to withdraw cash from participating stores should create a cash voucher and withdraw the cash from Shoprite, Usave, Checkers, SPAR, Choppies, or Boxer.
Create a Cash Voucher if you wish to buy goods at participating stores such as Shoprite, Usave, Checkers, SPAR, Choppies, Boxer, Van Schaiks, Nando’s, Romans Pizza, McDonald’s, Burger King, Spur, Hungry Lion, Debonairs, Rocomamas and John Dorys among others.
The daily cash withdrawal limit for these stores is between R200 and R1000.
On your cellphone
- Dial the shortcode *120*176#
- Enter your password.
- Click Send.
- Select option 1. Cash Voucher and click Send.
- Enter the amount and click Send.
- Your newly created voucher will be displayed.
Via internet
- Navigate to celbux.appspot.com.
- Log into your account by typing in your cellphone number and password and click the Login button.
- Click Pay.
- Enter amount.
- Click Done.
How to unlock your nsfas wallet

- Your ID Number and ID copy.
- Your full names and surname.
- Your cellphone number and email address.
- Your physical and or postal address.
- Description of your query.
