List Of Awards Won by Shatta Wale

Born Charles Nii Armah Mensah in Accra, Ghana, Shatta Wale (his current stage name) shot up into the music scenes with the name Bandana and with the song Mokohoo which he featured legendary Ga rapper, Tinny.

He has always been a devoted fan of music and arts, a trait he has since childhood. Reggae music is one of his first loves. It therefore doesn’t come out strange to see him doing dancehall music, a genre of music from Jamaica.

Shatta Wale’s dad wanted his son to pursue law, but he had another dream of becoming a great musician, making his dad throw him out from his home. He took to the streets in around 2003 and recorded a couple of songs which didn’t go too well. He left the music scene for a period of 10 years and took to the study of beat production and mastering his art in music in Jamaica.

Somewhere in 2013, he came back into the music scene, dropping street anthems like Shatta City, Havanna, and his numerous letters as he termed it to call out some of his colleague dancehall acts into a beef. He is also popular for his longtime rivalry with Samini, which has made the two release back to back diss songs against each other.

Known as the Dancehall King and later the African Dancehall King, Shatta Wale walked out of the VGMAs in 2013 when he was not awarded the Best Dancehall Act. He later recorded a diss song against Chatter House, organizers of the Annual VGMAs. He apologized to organizers after numerous backlashes from Ghanaians and was nominated for the next edition and won the artiste of the year for the night.

In 2017 while on his US tour, Shatta Wale was presented with the key to Worcester by the mayor of Worcester for his excellent contribution to the music industry. That same year, he met with the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Akuffo Adoo  at the seat of government after he was invited in a tweet to the Flagstaff House on his birthday.
