On Thursday, Nov. 16, Abilene ISD announced the hiring of a new Executive Director of Fine Arts and principal of Austin Elementary School.
Superintendent Dr. David Young announced Lacy Bruce as the new principal at Austin Elementary.
She will begin in January 2024 succeeding outgoing principal Clay Johnson, who was recently offered a new position as district fine arts executive director.
Who is Lacy Bruce?
Lacy Bruce is an educationist and the newly named principal at Austin Elementary.
She grew up in Abilene, a city in Taylor and Jones County, Texas, United States.
She is married with three children, Jaxon, Emma, and Maxanne.
Educational background
Lacy Bruce attended Abilene High School for her high school education.
She received her bachelor’s degree in education from Hardin-Simmons University, followed by a master’s degree in education from Sul Ross University.
Career
Lacy Bruce taught second, third and fourth grade students at Johnston Elementary before moving into her current position as assistant principal.
Her experience includes special education instruction, grade level leadership and working on several committees (District of Innovation, Safe and Civil Schools, Campus Foundations, Gifted and Talented and emergency management).
