Former police, Bradley Haas has been identified as the victim who was shot at New Hampshire Hospital in Concord on Friday.
Bradley Haas, who was 63 years old was a state Department of Safety Security Officer.
Haas worked as a young man as a military police officer for the U.S. Army for three years before then serving in the Franklin Police Department for 28 years, according to the AG statement.
He started as a patrol officer before rising to chief of the department.
Bradley Haas lived in Franklin, a small town about 20 miles from Concord.
What happened at New Hampshire Hospital?
According to multiple reports online, Bradley was shot in the line of duty while working security at the hospital’s front lobby entrance.
The incident occurred at around 3:30 p.m. Friday.
First responders rushed to the New Hampshire Hospital off Clinton Street in the state capital city at 3:38 p.m.
“Upon entering the lobby, the suspect shot one individual,” Col. Mark Hall, director of the New Hampshire State Police, said. “A state trooper assigned to the hospital and in close proximity, immediately engaged, shot and killed the suspect.”
Police said they administered CPR to Haas at the scene before transporting him to Concord Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
“Although there will continue to be a law enforcement presence here for several hours as the investigation unfolds, it’s important to note that there is no threat to the public and there is no threat to the patients or staff at the hospital,” Hall said.
According to its website, the New Hampshire Hospital provides acute, inpatient psychiatric services.
Investigators did not immediately release the identity of the shooter amid the ongoing probe into the incident.
Investigators with the New Hampshire State Police searched and cleared a suspicious box truck near the scene, saying the box truck posed no safety risk.
