Where Is Ben Kaplan Going After Leaving WCTV? This fall, KCCI is growing its roster of nighttime anchors.

On weeknights at 6, 9, and 10 p.m., Tallahassee nightly anchor and reporter Ben Kaplan will appear with co-host Stacey Horst and recently appointed chief meteorologist Jason Sydejko.

After spending seven years at WCTV in the capital city of Florida, Kaplan joined the CBS affiliate in the area and brought 20 years of broadcasting expertise with him.

Steve Karlin, who retired in March, will be replaced by Kaplan.

The University of Montana alum has a wealth of expertise in broadcasting, and in 2019 she received a Service to America award from the National Association of Broadcasting Leadership Foundation for her reporting on Hurricane Maria’s devastation in Puerto Rico.

Since the 4 p.m. program debuted five years ago, Kaplan has co-anchored it with his wife Katie Kaplan, a senior multimedia journalist and assignment reporter at WCTV.

Notably, the Kaplans always don matching costumes during that newscast. In November, Katie Kaplan will leave WCTV.

In addition, Ben Kaplan has co-anchored the newscasts at 5:30, 6, and 11 p.m. with Julie Montanaro and Abby Walton.

Kaplan’s work at WCTV has won numerous awards on a national level. Notably, he was given the National Association of Broadcasters’ Service to America Award.

The next stop for Ben Kaplan is Des Moines, Iowa, where he will serve as the evening news anchor at KCCI.
