The former Baltimore Orioles executive and high-profile attorney Peter Angelos has passed away at the age of 94.
The Angelos family released the following statement through the Orioles on Saturday:
“Today, Peter G. Angelos passed away quietly at the age of 94. Mr. Angelos had been ill for several years, and the family thanks the doctors, nurses, and caregivers who brought comfort to him in his final years. It was Mr. Angelos’ wish to have a private burial, and the family asks for understanding as they honor that request. Donations may be sent to charity in lieu of flowers.”
Before his death, Peter Angelos had became incapacitated, according to documents in a 2022 legal battle that pitted his younger son, Louis Angelos, against Peter Angelos’ wife, Georgia, and elder son, John Angelos.
Who are Louis & John Angelos?
Peter Angelos had two children with his wife Georgia Kousouris: John and Louis Angelos.
John Angelos
John P. Angelos, the eldest son of Peter George Angelos, was born on May 14, 1967.
He is an American businessman who currently holds the position of owning and managing the Baltimore Orioles. Taking charge in 2020, he leads the club’s front office and ensures the smooth running of day-to-day business operations.
Prior to this role, he served as the Orioles’ COO and executive vice president since 1999. Additionally, he holds the position of president and chief operating officer of the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (MASN), where he oversees the network’s business operations.
It is worth noting that John Angelos is the son of Peter Angelos, the owner of the Baltimore Orioles.
Interestingly, on January 30, 2024, he made an agreement to sell the Orioles to an investment group led by billionaire David Rubenstein.
Louis Angelos
Louis Angelos, born in 1970 and now 54 years old, is the youngest in the Angelo family, with his older brother being John P. Angelos.
Unlike his brother, Louis Angelos has remained largely out of the public eye.
Details about his professional pursuits are scarce, and his involvement with the Orioles appears minimal.
However, a 2022 lawsuit filed by Louis against John sheds some light on the family dynamic.
The lawsuit alleged that John was attempting to undermine their father’s wishes regarding the Orioles’ future and the division of family assets.
While the specifics of the case were not made public, it did expose a potential rift between the brothers concerning the Angelos legacy.
