Henry County, GA – A young girl’s life was tragically cut short on Thursday morning when she was struck by a car while attempting to board her school bus in Henry County.
The driver, identified as 25-year-old Kaylee Andre, is facing multiple charges, including vehicular homicide, for allegedly ignoring the bus’s safety signals.
According to officials, the incident occurred as the school bus stopped with its flashing lights activated and stop sign extended.
The 8-year-old girl, whose name has not been released, was crossing the road to board the bus when she was struck by Andre’s Ford Fusion.
Despite receiving immediate medical attention and being airlifted to the hospital, the young girl succumbed to her injuries.
Andre was arrested and booked into the Henry County jail, where she faces charges of vehicular homicide, failure to stop for a school bus, and failure to exercise due care.
Neighbors and others who say they knew the 8-year-old victim placed flowers Saturday at a makeshift memorial on Jackson Lake Road.
“My heart goes out to the family,” neighbor Jeff Lockridge said.
Lockridge, who has a daughter of his own, adds he is tired of seeing drivers speeding down the road.
“All the time. They don’t care,” he said. “If you’re gonna be late to work, call in and tell them. It ain’t that big of a deal. Your work will understand. They’d rather you be five minutes late than kill somebody.”
State troopers are still investigating the incident.
