Zachary Hatton: Kings Creek firefighter killed in crash

A firefighter with the Kings Creek Fire Department was killed following a vehicle accident early Sunday morning.

The fire department stated that they were called to a motor vehicle accident involving an entrapment on Blue Creek Road.

When firefighters arrived on scene a Dodge pickup truck had collided with a tree and fellow firefighter Zachary Hatton was trapped inside.

Multiple crews from Kings Creek Fire Department, the Lenoir Fire Department, Valmead Fire Department, Caldwell County Emergency Services, and Caldwell County EMS, worked to free Hatton from the vehicle and administered life-saving measures.

However, Hatton had succumbed to his injuries during the extrication process.

The cause of the accident is currently under investigation by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
