Yukon University admission requirements

Yukon University is a community college and research institute that offers a wide range of programs.

Some of these programs include four-year degrees, two-year diplomas, high school upgrading, intermediate and advanced ESL, and one-year certificate programs.

Yukon University also specializes in Business, Culinary Arts (cooking), Early Childhood Development, and Renewable Resources Management.

However, to get into Yukon university, you will have to meet their admission requirements before you can apply to study for any course.

Admission Requirements for Yukon University

Students must be 19 years of age or have completed high school in their native country in order to be admitted to Yukon University.

A high school diploma that has been translated into English must be presented by graduates.

Yukon University may accept students between the ages of 17 and 19 who have not finished high school in their native country but have been out of school for at least a year.

Moreover, you have three (3) admission pathway options of which one must be fully met to be able to enter your program of choice at Yukon University. These admission pathway options are listed and explained below.

Admission Pathway Options

  • Evaluated Transcript Pathway

If you meet the academic criteria, this pathway enables you to be completely qualified for your program.

When registration opens, you can enroll in your courses through this pathway.

Requirements

A certified evaluation of your transcript to verify your eligibility for the program. The agencies that specialize in this evaluation include:

  1. International Credential Evaluation Service (ICES) – choose Comprehensive evaluation
  2. International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) – choose Specialized evaluation
  3. World Evaluation Services (WES) – choose Course by course evaluation

You would also need an English language proficiency score that meets the requirements of this admission pathway.

  • Assessments Pathway

If you follow this pathway and achieve the English Language Proficiency standards, you will get a conditional letter of acceptance into your program.

However, you will need to complete the requirements when you get to the Yukon.

You cannot sign up for lessons unless you have passed the program’s requirements and completed the necessary assessments.

If, however, you do not meet up with the program requirements, you’ll be placed in the third pathway, an upgrading program, where you’ll spend at least one semester taking the necessary courses.

The requirements for this admission pathway include:

  1. An English language proficiency score that passes the requirements and,
  2. Appropriate results on the placement exams at Yukon University (available only at Yukon University).
  • Upgrading Pathway

This option is available to those who are aware that they must complete a semester or a year of upgrading before being admitted to their program of choice or who, like some refugee students, lack the necessary paperwork to support their university applications.

You cannot use this option to register for classes unless you have passed the Yukon University English placement test.

This establishes how many semesters you must complete in this program before getting accepted into your top-choice program.

The Requirements for the Upgrading Pathway includes a score on the English language competence test that is sufficient to:

  1. IELTS Academic Tests 5.0. No section may have a score of less than 5.0. or
  2. iBT TOEFL score of 45
  3. PTE Academic 29 (no lower than 29 in each section)

Also, students need to have adequate scores on the English placement exam available at Yukon University.
