Hulk Hogan, one of the most recognized names in professional wrestling history, has died at the age of 71.
According to reports from TMZ Sports, emergency medical personnel were dispatched to Hogan’s home in Clearwater, Florida, early Thursday morning following a cardiac arrest. Multiple police and emergency vehicles were seen outside the property. Hogan was transported to the hospital on a stretcher but was later pronounced dead.
Just weeks prior to his passing, Hogan’s wife, Sky, addressed online rumors claiming he was in a coma. At the time, she stated that his heart remained strong and that he was recovering from surgeries.
Born Terry Eugene Bollea, Hulk Hogan gained international fame in the 1980s as the face of WWE (then WWF), becoming a pop culture icon. His charismatic persona and larger-than-life presence helped transform professional wrestling from a niche sport into a global entertainment industry.
In 1996, Hogan took a dramatic turn in his wrestling career by creating the NWO (New World Order) and rebranding himself as “Hollywood Hogan.” The move sparked a new era in wrestling and contributed to a rise in ratings and popularity for WCW (World Championship Wrestling).
Hogan was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005. However, he was removed from the Hall in 2015 after the release of a secretly recorded video that contained racist language. The footage, published by Gawker, led to a widely publicized lawsuit, which Hogan won.
