Woman killed, two men wounded in Central City shooting

A 26-year-old woman was killed and a man and teen boy were wounded in a Central City shooting at a second-line parade Sunday evening, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

Police were called at 5:17 p.m. to the 2700 block of Magnolia Street, where they found the woman. She was later declared dead on scene, police said.

Investigators found a wounded 16-year-old boy a few blocks away in the 2700 block of 7th Street, along with a wounded 29-year-old man who was located nearby. Paramedics transported both to local hospitals with injuries that were not thought to be life threatening, according to police.

An arrest had not been announced in the case as of Sunday night. NOPD spokesperson Reese Harper urged witnesses and those with video footage of the shooting to come forward.

“Our hearts are with the family who is grieving tonight and with everyone shaken by this incident,” Harper said in a prepared statement. “Second lines are part of who we are as a city. No one should ever fear violence in these moments. We will stand with this family, with this community, and we will not let this go unanswered.”

Police did not immediately release more information.
