These instances have happened for quite some time now since Ghana started practicing the fourth republican constitution.

The unfortunate happened when the MP representing the NPP at Mfantseman constituency, Ekow Quansah Hayford was shot dead by some unknown assailants during his tour on Friday.

The incumbent party, according to some sources sent a letter to the electoral commission stating to re-elect another candidate to represent the NPP which outlined a 10-day extension nomination period within which political parties can file for replacement of candidates.

This has allowed Mrs Ophelia Hayford to fill in the shoes of her late Husband as we go to the polls come December 7.

Surprisingly, the people of Mfantsiman after the sudden death of Mr Hayford called for her wife to succeed her.

The people of Mfantsiman are looking forward to cast their votes for Mrs Hayford to enable her continue the good work her husband began come December 7.

Lydia Seyram Alhassan

Mrs Lydia Alhassan who is the second wife of the then MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Emmanuel Kyeremateng Agyarko died as a sitting MP.

Mrs Lydia was chosen to step in the shoes of her husband and she promised the people of Ayawaso West Wuogon to continue her husband’s good work when voted into power if she got the mandate to represent them on parliament.

Mrs Lydia won the by-election on January, 2019 with large number of votes, beating her NDC, PPP and other counterparts.

Mrs Lydia plans on contesting for this year’s seat as the MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon and seeks to win come December 7.

Linda Ocloo Obenewaa Akweley

Linda Ocloo’s husband, Desmond William Ocloo who represented the NDC as the member of parliament for Shai Osudoku constituency unfortunately died on the spot in a road traffic accident on May, 2016 in Juaso, the Asante Akyem South District of the Ashanti Region.

In the accident, Mr Desmond and the driver who both had a head-on crash died at the spot.

During the 2016 elections, the opposition party, NDC selected Mrs Linda Ocloo to step in the shoes of her husband and luckily for her she won the elections beating other two candidates with lots of votes.

Mrs Linda plans on contesting and winning this year’s seat as the NDC Member of parliament come December 7.
