A man believed to be part of the wealthy Rothschild family died after a fire broke out in a hillside home in the Hollywood Hills on Wednesday.
The Los Angeles Fire Department reported that firefighters arrived at the 8500 block of Lookout Mountain Avenue around 4:40 p.m.
Crews worked quickly, extinguishing the blaze in just 33 minutes. However, upon entering the home, firefighters discovered the body of a man inside.
Authorities have not yet released the victim’s name. Neighbors identified him as Will Rothschild, reportedly a member of the powerful banking family.
Investigation Underway
Officials are working to determine the cause of the fire and the man’s exact cause of death. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy.
As of now, it remains unclear what sparked the fire.
No other injuries were reported.
A Reclusive Neighbor
Rothschild was described by neighbors as an eccentric millionaire, or possibly a billionaire, who owned multiple properties and a collection of expensive cars.
Despite living on a street lined with multi-million-dollar homes and celebrity residents, he was known for keeping to himself.
Some neighbors assumed the home was vacant because they had never seen him. Others who knew Rothschild expressed their sorrow.
“It is very sad,” said neighbor Jim Moore. “He was a good guy. A good neighbor.”
