In the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, the former Crewe Alexandra coach and Manchester City scout abused young boys.

Andy Woodward is a former Crewe Alexandra footballer who had been abused for years. But one of Bennell’s relatives had already inflicted unspeakable sorrow on the family.
In 2016, Woodward revealed his abuse by Bennell, which led more than eighty other alleged victims to come forward.
Lynda was named after her aunt. At the time of her marriage, Andy and Lynda were unaware that Barry Bennell’s cousin, Ronald, brutally murdered their aunt in 1970 as she walked home through Manchester.
Woodward’s aunt was seven months pregnant and 22 years old when she was brutally raped, beaten and bitten before she died near the Kingsway dual carriageway in Manchester.
Andy revealed to the Guardian in an interview how Bennell brought him to his parent’s house, where a picture of Ronald Bennell was on the wall.
He told the publication that he did not know then that ‘Our Ronnie’ was his aunt’s killer.
Ronald Bennell had already killed himself by hanging in Strangeways prison while waiting for trial over the murder of another young woman in Stockport in 1989.
Before that, he had spent 12 years in jail for killing Lynda when he was only 18.
With such complex pasts, Lynda and Barry’s marriage was unlikely to be happy. They probably had little in common.
Also, the notorious child abuser’s wife must have struggled to cope with the consequences of their family’s actions.

The notorious child abuser’s criminal activities and convictions have been widely reported, but there is no public information about him having any children.
Bennell’s dark legacy revolves around his involvement in youth football coaching in the UK, where he used his position to exploit vulnerable boys.
The depth of his depravity and the number of victims who suffered at his hands are staggering, making him a symbol of betrayal and abuse within the world of sports.
While his crimes have left a lasting scar on the lives of many, there is no evidence to suggest that Bennell ever had children of his own.
His story is a stark reminder of the need for vigilance and protection of young athletes and vulnerable individuals in positions of trust.
