Vetting of Akufo-Addo’s ministerial nominees begins Jan 20

The vetting of Nana Akufo-Addo’s nominees for the heads of the various ministries is expected to begin on January 20, by parliament’s Appoints Committee.

On Wednesday, January 11, the new Seventh parliament adjourned to pave way for the vetting process.

So far, President Akufo-Addo listed 25 names as ministerial nominees, naming his first batch on Tuesday, January 10 and the second batch on Wednesday January 11.

A public notice is expected to be released to gather details about the nominees which will aid the committee in the vetting process.

Included in the list of nominees were some old faces such as Albert Kan Dapaah (National Security), John Alan Kyerematen (Trade and Industry) and Yaw Osafo Mafo (Senior Minister) who were members of the erstwhile John Agyekum Kufuor government.

New faces such as Ken Ofori-Atta (Finance), Dominic Nitiwul (Defence) and Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh (Education) were among the first batch of names listed.

The second batch of nominees came with new ministries such as the Ministry of Railway Development, Ministry of Sanitation and Ministry of Regional Reorganisation and Special Projects for Joe Ghartey, Joseph Kofi Addah and Daniel Botwe respectively.

The Vetting Committee will be chaired by First Deputy Speaker Joe Osei-Owusu with Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu as the Ranking Member.
