Mrs. Ursula Owusu Ekuful is currently the Minister for Communications designate and MP for Ablekuma West Constituency within the Greater Accra Region in Ghana.

She is a lawyer, advocate for women and children’s rights and was the MD of WESTEL, the second National Telecoms Operator, Managing Consultant with N. U. Consult, Legal, Governance and Gender Consultants and Chairperson for the Social Development Committee – which developed all social intervention policies and programs for women, children, persons with disability and the aged for the NPP manifesto 2016.

She worked for ten years as a lawyer at Akufo-Addo, Prempeh & Co. law firm before moving into the telecommunication industry to lead a telecom, technology company.

Political Career

Ursula was appointed Ghana’s minister of Communication in 2016.

She has also been the NPP Member of Parliament for the Ablekuma West Constituency since 2012.

Before that, she worked for 10 years as an Associate Attorney and was the acting Managing Director of Western Telesystems, and from April 2008 to January 2009, she was the Corporate and External Affairs Director, ZAIN Ghana.

In the run-up to the December 7, 2016 elections, she served as the Chairperson for the Social Development Sector Committee – a committee responsible for the development of policy interventions for women, children, persons with disability, the aged and all social intervention policies and programs for the NPP manifesto 2016.

Education

She holds a certificate in Government Integrity from the International Law Institute, Washington DC, a Project Management and Planning Certificate from GIMPA, and a Masters in Conflict Peace and Security from the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre.

She is a member of the Ghana Bar Association, International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) and African Women Lawyers Association (AWLA),

Academic qualifications

LLB from the University of Ghana, Legon, and was called to the Ghana Bar in 1990.

Masters degree in Conflict, Peace, and Security from the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre.

Certificate in Government Integrity from the International Law Institute, Washington DC,
a Project Management and Planning Certificate from the Ghana Institute for Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).​
