The Toronto Raptors defeated the Golden state warriors 114-110 in Game 6 of the 2019 NBA finals towing their first ever championship in the franchise’s history.
After 47 minutes in the game, Steph Curry was played in to shoot a three for the game winner. Everyone in Oakland and Toronto thought that was in but Curry who usually is clinical from the three point line, missed.
The Raptors went down the other end and finished off the game and the series.
This series will be remembered for the majestic performance of Kawhi Leonard as he deservedly won the finals MVP too.
Leonard, who is now two time NBA Champion and Finals MVP had one of his best runs in his playoff history and certainly his best triumph after the sweep of LeBron James’ Miami Heats in 2014.
It wasn’t just about Leonard though. Pascal Siakam was immense in Game 1 and held his own in game 6 while Kyle Lowry has stood tall in the finals especially.
Also, the small matter of their superfan, Drake, urging them on from the stands was not to be missed.
For the Golden State, the famous “3-peat” they were chasing has evaded them. They have had their struggles, with the injuries to Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson playing a huge role in their struggles.
However, all they can be left to rue is what could have been and reflect on a missed opportunity to go down in history.
The year however belonged to the raptors. After coming back in all three rounds of eastern conference playoffs, 1-0 vs the Magics, 2-1 vs The 76ers and 2-0 down after Game 2 versus the Bucks, they finally beat the golden state warriors 4-2 and clinched the title.
