Known in real life as Michael Owusu Addo, rapper Sarkodie shot into the music limelight in 2009 with his hit song ‘baby’ which he featured multi-talented artiste Mugeez. The rest of the story has been history.

The Tema-based rapper started on Adom Fm’s ‘Kasahare level’ where he battled with colleague rappers and eventually came out as the winner.

A decade on, Sarkodie has built a reputation for himself to become the most awarded Ghanaian rapper and also Africa’s awarded rapper.

The rapper won Ghana’s first-ever BET Award in 2012 in the category of Best International Act (Africa), has an award from MAMAs and has also won the BET Award for the Best International Flow category in 2019.

This among other great achievements across the world has put his name in the record books of one of Ghana and Africa’s most prolific hip-pop artists of all time.

1.Adonai–  Adonai is by far his biggest hit song ever. The song which he featured another prolific singer from Ghana, Castro has earned him a popular name on Youtube due its number of streams. It currently is the rapper’s highest-streamed song on Youtube.

2.U Go Kill Me–  ‘U Go Kill Me’ featuring prolific and award-winning rapper EL comes second. The song launched Sarkodie to the rest of Africa and the world at large due to its fusion of azonto in the early days of the Azonto craze.

3.Baby– ‘Baby’ featured R2Bees’ Mugeez and launched Sarkodie to Ghana, winning him the Discovery of the Year and Artiste of the Year award, among others at the 2009 VGMAs.

4.Illuminati– ‘Illuminati’ came at a point when Sarkodie grew tired of being attributed to the famous illuminati cult and had to disprove the allegations with what he knows how to do best, rapping. The video was top notch and is arguably one of his best music videos.

5.Saa Okodie No–  It isn’t easy to get mentors to jump to your praise but Sarkodie did just that with his known mentor Obrafour on this jam. Obrafour in his chorus praised the rapper and said he will succeed him with great rap. Turns out he didn’t lie.

6.I’m In Love With You – we barely hear Sarkodie sing but this was his first song where he sang with ghana’s biggest female singer Efya. This song became a masterpiece.

7.Mary – Sarkodie decided to show his multi-talented nature by recording a high-life album and this song was the debut song on the album, winning him a number of awards locally.

8.Pon De Thing– this song featured one of Africa’s finest singers, Banky W from Nigeria and went a long way to cement Sarkodie’s name in Nigeria.

9.Down On One– one of Afrca’s biggest artistes in the UK, Fuse ODG jumped on this tune with Sarkodie and made a hit song from it. The song topped chats in UK and Europe for weeks.

10.Bra – off the Mary album, Sarkodie featured one of ghana’s prolific high-life singers, Pat Thomas on this tune.
