Thoughts And Debates Went Into The President's Decision To Lift Partial Lock down – George Quaye

Media personality and event organizer, George Quaye has rallied his support behind the President, Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo’s decision to lift the partial lockdown of Accra and Kumasi.

According to George Quaye, the president and his team gave the decision a serious thought before enforcing the decision to lift the partial lockdown.

Some three weeks ago, Accra, Kasoa, Kumasi and Obuasi was hit by a partial lockdown after cases of COVID 19 hit its early figures. During the period, movement was restricted to give groups of people, bringing a halt to economic activities. On Sunday, the president lifted the lockdown protocols, allowing movement in these areas. His decision has hence sparked a debate on social media, considering the number of cases recorded so far.

Defending the president’s decision via a facebook post, George Quaye emphasized that the decision by the President didn’t come as a result of political gains but was arrived at after consultations with experts on economics and health, stating that the president isn’t an idiot. He called on Ghanaians to continue to adhere to safety measures during these difficult times. He wrote;

“It’s always easy to question a decision from the comfort of an arm chair,” he says in a Facebook post. “Our president is not an idiot and he is not surrounded by airheads. I’m pretty sure a lot of deep thought, debates, conversations, arguments and counter arguments went into the decision to ‘unlock’ the ‘lockdown’. As mentioned in one of his addresses (if I am not mistaken), your front door is your personal frontline hero in this battle against COVID-19.”

If you have nothing doing in town, please #stayhome! If you need to step out, please follow all the safety protocols and wear a face mask! If your employer insists you come to work, ensure he’s also made the environment safe. If he hasn’t, invest in your own safety! Your safety is your priority. The lockdown has been unlocked. Let’s kick Ghana’s economic motor into motion again please.”
