The spokesperson for Nana Akuffo Addo’s legal team in court, Kojo has defended the Electoral Commission boss, Madam Jean Mensah’s request not to mount the witness box.
According to him, there is no reason for her to do so since the case presented against the EC does not merit her to mount the box.
The EC counsel on Monday told the Supreme Court that it won’t be calling its witness into the witness box because the case presented to the court by the first petitioner doesn’t hold enough grounds, a statement which was objected to by counsel for John Mahama.
Oppong Nkrumah explaining the decision by the EC said the NDC has failed to provide valid evidence of election malpractices in the 2020 elections. He said the allegations are based on fiction and not facts, as compared to the 2013 election petition case where Nana Akuffo Addo presented the court with clear evidence of pink sheets that suggested rigging. He said;
“This is not [a] budget hearing of parliament that the EC must come and justify its budget. You have come to court with a specific petition and the onus of proof is on you to show to the court that this is the basic case that someone needs questions to answer
You cannot resort to propaganda answers that it’s in the interest of all Ghanaian for the EC chair to mount the witness box when there is no clear reason for her to do so.”
