Award-wining rapper and king of the streets, Kwaw Kesse has stated that the hype and popularity of dancehall music as a genre rides on artistes picking feuds with themselves and other artistes and nothing else.

Kwaw Kesse made this assertion in an interview with Zylofon Fm on Monday.

As monitored by ghlinks.com.gh, the king of the streets as he is affectionately known told host Sammy Flex that everything that has made dancehall music popular as a genre of music in Ghana is that the artistes constantly pick on themselves to create topics for discussions in the media circle. He added that that keeps them trending as artistes.

“They base their popularity on beefs and now that the beef has been squashed in the game, there is no hype for anybody so people keep dropping songs and we don’t even hear it”, he said.

The rapper noted that from the business perspective, it was wrong to squash beefs in that genre of music because it will affect sales and popularity of artistes in that genre of music.

The rapper who is out with a new single he calls Dondo said his song is currently the number one trending song in Ghana at the moment and that rap music is and hip-life music is back and here to stay.

He further established that dancehall music is alien to our culture and that hip-life artistes and rappers like Medikal, Sarkodie and himself are the ones currently trending due to their latest projects.
