There has been a long debate as to why the circular music industry seems to flourish as compared to the gospel music industry in Ghana.
A lot of people are of the view that low patronage is the reason whiles many other gospel musicians blame their tough times on event organizers paying less for the services they render.
Gospel musician Empress Gifty has affirmed the point of disrespect on the side of event organizers and most at times churches and has said the highest churches pay gospel musicians to perform is Ghc5000.
The gospel musician was in an interview with Accra based Happy Fm when she said this.
In the interview, the gospel act expressed gross dissatisfaction towards churches who invite gospel acts to perform only to give them peanuts. She added that most churches don’t even pay at all and see the act of performing in churches as a kind gesture that gospel acts must do.
The singer said that makes their work very difficult because they perform with instrumentalists who play the instruments on full time basis and also have mouths to feed at home. “I want the pastors to know that apart from the fact that it’ a gift, a lot of instrumentalists play instruments full time”, she said.
She pleaded with both event organizers and churches alike to respect gospel artists.
