How Tamala Edwards and her husband Rocco Lugrine met
Tamala Edwards and Mr. Lugrine met when she noticed an advertisement for classes in Valentine’s Day chocolate-making at one of his patisseries.
She decided to do a segment on the class on her show.
She said she expected the teacher to be “a sweaty bald guy with a European accent who would help you make chocolates, get frustrated and walk away.” To her surprise, she found “the executive chef to be a young handsome man, tall, with dark hair and the most beautiful, kind smile. I immediately went into reporter mode and noticed he had no wedding ring.’’
A neighbor Tamala Edwards describes as “the Will to my Grace,’’ urged her to ask Mr. Lugrine out, and she invited him first to dinner and then to the opera, invitations to which he did not immediately respond. (He did have a girlfriend, but she did not initially know that.)
But a few days later he asked her to dinner, and besides sharing a meal, he said, “I gave her a ton of chocolates.’’
Within two weeks, the girlfriend was gone, and their relationship proceeded from there.
“We met in February, our first date was in March, we started talking about marriage in April, we bought a house in Philadelphia in June, moved in July, got engaged in August and are getting married in September,” Ms. Edwards said the other day. “Every day has been a red letter day.’’
