Police say they have shot dead a suspect in the killing of a police officer during an armed robbery operation at Bogoso in the Western Region last Sunday.
The 32-year old Frederick Mensah alias Nana 1, is one of nine suspects who played various roles in the stealing of GHS900,000 belonging to an Indian-owned company, Plat and Plume Gold Refinery Company Ltd.
In the process, a police officer, Duku Nicholas, detailed to the company was shot in the back several times while he was escaping.
The able-bodied suspect was shot after attempts to re-arrest him failed.

Confirming the fatality, Sup. Kwabena Acheampong who is the Tarkwa Divisional Crime Officer, said the suspect died at the Tarkwa Government hospital.
“He was the most self-confessing among all the suspects we have arrested,” the Crime Officer said.
“He has provided police with a lot of information as to how the robbery was planned, where it was planned, the people who took part in the planning…the roles assigned to the conspirators.”
The Crime Officer said three suspects live in Tarkwa while five more joined in from unknown towns.
Meanwhile, the Tarkwa District Court on Friday the other three suspects with conspiracy to murder, murder and armed robbery.
The Court presided over by Judge Desmond Johnathan Nunu, remanded the four suspects into police custody to reappear on May 22, 2018.
