BET award winner, Livingstone Etse Satekla, popularly known as Stonebwoy evidently didn’t have life easy while growing up as he has narrated how he used public toilets at an early age in life while growing up in Ashiaman.
In a phone interview with Peace Fm’s Akwesi Aboagye on Entertainment Review, the popular dancehall artiste said he had to use public toilets when he was in primary school because he had no toilet facility at his home. He admitted it was quite tough as a young child having to be exposed to such risks at an early age. “Honestly, when I was growing up, I attended Government No. 3, Ashiaman no. 3. To be honest, the only toilet we had was the one at the public side and not at home. If I go to school at class 1,2 and 3, I was forced to use the public toilet. It was a really tough experience. Some kids fell into the toilets and even died”
Stonebwoy was recently named as an ambassador for the toilet in every home project, an initiative by the Ashiaman Municipality in collaboration with the Netherlands Embassy, UNICEF, and Apex bank to provide toilet facilities to every home in Ashiaman in an effort to celebrate the Ashiaman municipal Assembly @ 10 anniversary. In the said interview monitored by ghlinks.com.gh, the Top Skanka hit maker told Akwesi Aboagye how he was idolized in Ashiaman and thus the reason for being signed for the project. “I am from Ashiaman and am a popular figure in Ghana so if there’s any issue regarding the welfare of Ashiaman, I am called upon for my consent “.
Touching on the essence of the project in Ashiaman, the dancehall artist said the problem of toilet facilities in homes was an issue that is universal in Ghana and it was right to have the initiative at Ashiaman. “The lack of toilet facilities remains a major problem in Ghana and it also a serious issue in Ashiaman. With the Netherlands Embassy, Apex bank, UNICEF and others on board, I was called to come support the project. “
Asked how he was going to be of importance as an ambassador for the project, Stonebwoy explained that he was going to use his celebrity status to reach his fans through social media and educate them on the need to have toilet facilities in their homes. “I have to play a vital part through social media and a youth leader to drive the agenda” . He added that the banks were going to provide the people with affordable loans to help them construct toilets in their homes. This will help the project see the light of day. “The banks involved will be giving out cheap loans to help households build toilets in their homes. I think the amount is Ghs 1,200”
Stonebwoy called on the residents of Ashiaman to get involved in the project so as to help eradicate diseases associated with hygiene issues in Ashiaman. “You can go to the Ashiaman Municipal Assembly for directions on how to apply “.
