Police identified a man who was killed in a crash involving an Uber and two other vehicles that shut down Kelly Drive in Philadelphia Thursday afternoon.
The deadly crash occurred at the intersection of Kelly Drive and Reservoir Drive on Thursday, Aug. 15, at 3:22 p.m.
A 2015 black Nissan Altima was traveling southbound on Kelly Drive when it made an illegal left turn onto Reservoir Drive, directly into the path of a 2024 white Nissan Rogue that was traveling northbound, investigators said.
The crash caused the Altima to spin and strike a third vehicle, a 2016 black BMW.
The passenger of the Altima, later identified as 41-year-old Steven Tyree Moultrie, was taken to Temple University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 4:02 p.m. that day.
The driver of the Altima, a 44-year-old man, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.
The unidentified man was an Uber driver.
An Uber spokesperson revealed they removed the man’s access to their platform as soon as the crash was reported to them and they continue to investigate the incident.
“There are no words to describe this tragic loss and our hearts are with the rider’s loved ones during this unimaginably difficult time,” the spokesperson wrote. “Our dedicated team stands ready to support police in their investigation, and we have removed the driver’s access to our platform.”
Police continue to investigate the crash and said charges are pending.
The crash closed Kelly Drive in both directions for hours before lanes reopened.
