Shaton Cobb, Memphis Auto shop owner shot and killed at work

Memphis Police are looking for two suspects in the fatal shooting of a local business owner at his store. Loved ones identified the victim as Shaton Cobb, owner of MTA auto shop on Winchester Road.

Family, friends and coworkers revealed that they are heartbroken by the loss and want to know why he was gunned down.

“A young man like that, to make it and be snuffed out after he made it, it’s just a tough thing to deal with,” Walter Wilkins, a friend of Cobb’s, said.

MPD said the shooting happened just after 2 p.m. Two unidentified men were seen running away from the store afterwards. “I’m hoping like Hell they catch them because it’s unnecessary, you know?” Wilkins said.

Wilkins said in an interview that he and Cobb knew each other for years. After getting concerned calls from mutual friends and coworkers, he headed to the auto shop to find it surrounded by squad cars and yellow tape.

“He was like a son of mine. That’s what everyone called him, my son,” he said. “We worked for about 20 years together. Great guy. Good worker. And he was learning from the old man. I taught him a lot.”

Wilkins said Cobb was a loving father and boss who owned two successful stores. “It’s an emptiness, man,” he said. “It’s an emptiness. It hurts.”
