Houston police are investigating the deaths of a young mother and her toddler at a west Houston apartment complex early Friday morning.
The tragic discovery has left a family grieving and a community shaken.
HPD found the mother, in her 20s, Shar’lett Fisher, and her daughter, between 2 and 4 years old, dead in a third-floor apartment, after a family member of the woman flagged down officers in the area around 2:45 a.m.
Police detained a man found in the apartment with blood on him.
Authorities have named him a person of interest but have not disclosed further details about the incident.
“As they arrived at the apartment, an occupant stepped out,” said HPD Assistant Chief J. Bryant. “They immediately detained him because they noticed suspicious activity at the apartment.”
Investigators are still determining the cause of death for the mother and child.
Police say they are not searching for anyone else in connection with the case.
Family Speaks Out
Joanna Fisher, the mother of both the suspect and one of the victims, shared her heartbreak.
She believes drugs played a role in the incident, citing her son’s recent erratic behavior.
“His so-called friends got him on some fake weed,” Joanna said, struggling to contain her emotions. “He came home on a rampage. I had to put him out.”
Joanna revealed that she had sought help from authorities in the past, filing family violence reports and asking for intervention. “I got paperwork,” she said, referencing the efforts she made to prevent this outcome.
She also mentioned her son’s recent release from prison, expressing frustration that earlier warnings were not enough to stop this tragedy.
