The Member of Parliament for Fomena constituency, Honourable Andrews Asiamah Amoako has said that his nomination for the position of the second deputy speaker of parliament position came as a surprise to him.

The 8th parliament chose the Fomea MP take the role of the second deputy speaker of parliament on Thursday 7th January 2021 after a long process of back and forth in the selection of the leaders of the house. Alban Kingsford Bagbin assumed the role of the Speaker of Parliament whiles Honourable Joseph Osei Owusu took the role of the first deputy speaker of Parliament.

After his nomination by Honourable Muntaka, the Fomena MP was named as the second deputy speaker. The independent candidate prior to the 2020 election went as an independent candidate after he fell out with his party the NPP.

Disclosing how he felt, the MP said he least expected to be nominated and chosen since he didn’t go to parliament with the intention of being a deputy speaker. He said;

“I entered the Chamber of Parliament with the view that I was going to be sworn in as an ordinary Member of Parliament only for me to be met with shock that I was going to be considered as the second deputy speaker of the Parliament. It was shock and I never thought of it…It really came to me as surprise.”
