Sarkodie To Drop Two Albums This Year
When Sark announced his intention to drop a live album, not only did we anticipate but have been wondering how this ‘unusual’ project will turn out to be.
The ‘granny inspired’ live track-list album by Ghana’s hottest MC (inarguably), upon its release didn’t only arise my curiosity but also got me thinking if the rapper plans to drop two separate albums this year. Based on a couple of factors, after going through the official 11 track-list for the much anticipated ‘Mary’ album, the songs and artistes featured on the record (mainly Ghanaian acts) instigated my inquisitiveness.
This particular album ‘Mary’ is entirely live music with the likes of Akwaboah, Efya, Pat Thomas, Obrafour etc…Thus the rapper would certainly love to later ‘satisfy’ his fans with what he is best known to do, drop hot rap songs. We all know most top rappers in their prime don’t suddenly retire from flowing rhymes while they got more lyrics to deliver and Sarkodie has made it clear he only decided to do live music to honor the wish of his late Grandmother; signifying the tongue twisting MC won’t stop dropping bars anytime soon.
With his core fan base mainly built on rap music, I don’t see why Sarkodie, upon releasing previous rap dominated albums like Makye, Rapperholic & Sarkology that have won him prestigious awards and gotten him on the BET rap cypher would entirely quit that for live music. In addition, Sark recently dropped a hiphop single #NewGuy with Acehood; being his first time working with an American artiste, we all know he would love to put that record on an album.
Also, in a twitter fan interaction, Sarkodie stated having recorded a song with WizKid and as there was no such collabo on the ‘Mary’ list featuring the Nigerian superstar, if my guess is right it would definitely make it onto his following album after ‘Mary’. While away in the states earlier this year, Obidi as he likes to call himself, posted a photo on his social media revealing the TM rapper in a studio with sound engineer 88keys.
The latter is the brain behind the production of ‘No Church In The Wild’ off the joint released album ‘Watch The Throne’ by JayZ & Kanye West. Since then, the rapper hasn’t hinted about his work with the ace producer but eventually the song would be out and I suspect it would perfectly fit onto his next rap album.
If you have been following Sarkodie’s album release pattern you will get the connection the rapper has with December25. The iconic calendar date has even gone on to get some shout out on a verse in his ‘Revenge Of The Spartans’ single. Since ‘Mary’ is likely to be released way before December, the rapper might be tempted to drop another album on 25th December this year to maintain how he normally likes to launch his album by hosting a concert.
Notwithstanding the fact that Sarkodie is at his peak, this year has so far proven to place him in a very influential position (going on a rant about Ghana Music Awards & being one of the prominent figures to start the #DumsorMustStop movement).
With buzz and hype whirling around the rapper his team will see it as a profitable business move to hold a concert by releasing another album which a bet might even fill the stadium. Already solidifying his hype with nominations at this year’s BET & MAMA awards Sarkodie would look forward to bag more if he drops another album.
Will Sarkodie be among the few talented artistes to have dropped two albums the same year? And if he does, will this genius attempt further raise his status quo from ‘I came, I saw, I conquered’ to his very own term ‘WHATELSE’?. Well let’s see how the following months unfold.
