Richard Commey’s humiliating defeat means Ghana ends the year with no world champion after Isaac Dogboe also lost his belt earlier this year to Naverette.

The build up to the fight was intense with both boxers filled with full confidence of victory.

However, there were doubts being raised regarding Commey whow was tipped to lose his belt.

Ano article by several boxing experts even predicted a resounding victory for Lopez.

Commey went into the fight with the best way possible, going on the offensive and landing a few punches in the first round.

However, Lopez was building momentum and waiting for his shot.

The American got his chance early in the second round when he was quicker in landing a powerful right handed shot into the face of Commey after both boxers opened up.

Commey recovered from that shot immediately and got up to his feet but the cracks were there and Lopez knew it.

Noticing his opponent was affected by that heavy punch, Lopez went in all out and landed a  flurry of punches, 31 out of 34 until the referee called the bout off to give the American victory.

The 22-year old now has the opportunity to fight Lomachencko for a unification bout while Commey will now have to find a way back to being a champion.
